Producer Joel Bach Honored for Powerful Climate Change Storytelling with Golden Goody Award
Santa Monica, CA (PRWEB) September 18, 2014
In sync with the Social Good Summit (September 21-22) and Climate Summit 2014 (September 23) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City next week, Director, Producer, Content Creator and News Writer Joel Bach will be honored with a Golden Goody Award by the Goody Awards (http://goodyawards.com). This lifetime achievement award is being presented to Joel for bringing climate change stories to the big screen thru â60 Minutesâ, PSAs, and as Co-Creator and Executive Producer for âYears of Living Dangerouslyâ (a Showtime documentary TV series that was just released on DVD http://bit.ly/yearsoflivingdangerously).
To bring attention to climate change, Joel Bach produced stories on this topic while working for â60 Minutesâ with Ed Bradley, Scott Pelley, Steve Kroft and Lesley Stahl. Over his seven years there, Joel produced 22 stories that won 3 Emmys. Using his news storytelling skills, Joel most recently co-created with fellow â60 Minutesâ Producer David Gelber a news storytelling series, âYears of Living Dangerously."
Goody Awards Founder Liz H Kelly shared, âWe are grateful to Joelâs fans on Twitter for nominating him for this special Golden Goody Award, and for helping us magnify his powerful messages about the dangers of climate change. Thank you Joel for your compassion and for using film to tell this story, along with giving actions that we can all take now to save the planet.â
From the âYears of Living Dangerouslyâ offices in New York City, Joel accepted the award from Goody Awards Ambassador Kelly Mayer by sharing, âI am so honored to receive this award. It means that âYears of Living Dangerouslyâ struck a chord with people, and that feels amazing. The reason David Gelber and I embarked on this crazy adventure four years ago was to raise awareness on climate change and encourage people to take action. Itâs become clear that action is being taken, and that makes it all worthwhile. Thanks again, Goody Awards, I am deeply touched.â
To bring the âYears of Living Dangerouslyâ documentary series to fans, Joel Bach and David Gelber worked with a power team of Executive Producers (James Cameron, Jerry Weintraub, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Daniel Abbasi and Maria Wilhelm), 14 Correspondents, 11 Co-Producers and a Production team of 60+.
âYears of Living Dangerouslyâ includes 16 powerful stories over 9 one-hour episodes, and was just released on DVD (September 7, 2014). Topics include âA Dangerous Futureâ (Matt Damon), âEnd of the Woodsâ (Harrison Ford), âIce and Brimstoneâ (Lesley Stahl and Ian Somerhalder), âRevolt, Rebuild and Renewâ (Jessica Alba) and more.
This summer âYears of Living Dangerouslyâ won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Nonfiction Series, and was also honored with an Environmental Media Award.
And to take this learning to the next level, âYears of Living Dangerouslyâ has teamed up with the National Wildlife Federation. Educators, Students and Colleges will receive "age appropriate and developmentally appropriate curriculum", resources, online learning, contests and events to enhance and extend the experience beyond the screen for middle and high school teachers and students, college faculty and students, and parents.
Because the Goody Awardsâ mission is to inspire positive change by recognizing good in the world, it is an honor to present this top award to an extraordinary force for good. Previous winners of the Golden Goody Award have included Ian Somerhalder (âVampire Diariesâ star and Activist, who is a Correspondent in âYears of Living Dangerouslyâ http://bit.ly/iansomerhaldergoodyawards), Louie Psihoyos, Director of Academy Award Winning Documentary âThe Coveâ, Anna Cummins, Founder of â5 Gyresâ, Nobel Peace Prize Nominee Sir Nicholas Winton (who has been on â60 Minutesâ) and more.
Thank you Joel Bach and everyone on the âYears of Living Dangerouslyâ team. And special thanks to everyone who has supported Joelâs climate change awareness productions over the years. Itâs a big world with big climate change challenges, and everyone needs to know how to get involved. http://yearsoflivingdangerously.com/executive-producer/joel-bach/
