To play the major pentatonic scale you simply just the minor pentatonic scale four frets lower. Claude demonstrates this in the key of C with an Am (A minor) pentatonic scale played in the first position as follows; 5th fret of the 6th string with first finger to the 8th fret with 4th finger to the 5th fret of the 5th string with first finger to the 7th fret with 3rd finger and then repeat that sequence for strings four and three and then 5th fret of the 2nd string with first finger to the 8th fret with 4th finger and then repeat that sequence for the first string. By playing the scale pattern in this position it becomes C major pentatonic. Johnson continues this easy lead guitar lesson by performing some licks in major pentatonic over a backing track so you can see and hear the difference in the sound of the minor pentatonic scale versus the major pentatonic scale.
