“Here is a cool thing you can do when you are playing a shuffle riffâ€, says Johnson. Claude demonstrates the shuffle rhythm in the key of B as follows; 7th fret of the 6th string with first finger and 9th fret of the 5th string with 2nd finger, strummed twice as 1/8 notes (1 &) and then switches the note of the 5th string to the 11th fret with 4th finger and strums it twice, also as 1/8th notes (2 &) and then repeats the whole sequence to make one measure of four beats (1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &). “You can add in some pentatonic notesâ€, says Johnson. Claude demonstrates the B minor pentatonic scale as follows; 7th fret of the 6th string with first finger to the 10th fret with 4th finger to the 7th fret of the 5th string with first finger to the 9th fret with 3rd finger and then repeat that sequence for strings four and three and then 7th fret of the 2nd string with first finger t o the 10th fret with 4th finger and then repeat that sequence for the first string.
