“The Blues Scale is a Pentatonic Scale with an extra note”, says Johnson. Claude starts off this easy beginner blues guitar lesson by demonstrating the pentatonic scale in the key of A as follows; 5th fret of the 6th string with first finger to the 8th fret with 4th finger to the 5th fret of the 5th string with first finger to the 7th fret with 3rd finger to the 5th fret of the 4th string with first finger to the 7th fret with 3rd finger to the 5th fret of the 3rd string with first finger to the 7th fret with 3rd finger to the 5th fret of the 2nd string with first finger to the 8th fret with 4th finger to the 5th fret of the first string with first finger and to the 8th fret with 4th finger. To make this scale into the blue scale, you simply add the flattened 5th degree of the scale to it. This is done by adding the 6th fret of the 5th string with 2nd finger and 8th fret of the 3rd string with 4th finger. Guitar TAB’s are available for this easy blues guitar lesson at GuitarControl.com.

The Pentatonic Scale is a musical scale with five notes per octave. They can be found all over the world and are the main scale used in the Blues genre.

The Blues Scale is a musical scale based on the Pentatonic Scale with the added flattened fifth degree (Diminished Fifth) of the scale added.
