On November 7, 2014, Calgary truck, trailer and diesel repair shop, J & W Mechanical Fleet Services, celebrated its 17th year in business. In 1997, the company was originally formed as a lawn care and snow removal business, and was started by then, 12 year old, James Timothy White with about $ 20 dollars, which was money White earned from babysitting. The original name was J & W Lawn Care & Snow Removal.

After only a few years in business, with rapid growth and expansion, then 15 year old James renamed the company J & W Group of Companies and hired his mother as operations manager.

“Growing up they would call me Alice after the movie Alice and Wonderland because I was an ambitious kid who had dreams of great success. No one thought I could or would accomplish them. When the opportunity came to support my son and help our family grow, I jumped on it without hesitation,” recalls, Susan White, now CEO of J & W Mechanical Fleet Services.

After a few years with Susan at the helm of J & W, the company had grown to encompass several different divisions and offer services in many other industries. This was due to the fact that Susan believed in great customer service and at the time it just was not being offered in the city of Calgary, Alberta. In 2004, Susan convinced her husband, Tim who was a heavy duty mechanic, to quit his job and come on to help maintain the company's fleet of vehicles and equipment.

With creative juices flowing and the business in the hands of his parents James would venture out on his own, eventually leave the business and in 2005, sell it to this father Tim, who is also a licensed heavy duty mechanic. Truck drivers found out that Tim was now maintaining J & W Lawn cares fleet and asked if he would maintain their trucks also.

In 2005, newly appointed CEO, Susan shifted the company's focus to also offer truck, trailer and diesel repair services. After guiding the company through the “great recession” today it has now become a leader in the heavy truck and trailer repair industry operating from Calgary, Alberta, Canada in a 16,000 square foot, 8 bay shop, with several employees. The company continues to grow and has tripled it’s business since the move into their new shop in November of 2013 with sales increasing year-over-year.

“The majority of the business has been built on word-of-mouth advertising; we'll work until the early hours of morning to make sure our customers trucks are back on the road because we care. If our customers aren't making money, J & W isn’t making money,” says Tim White.
