Featured in the film are the Young Marine of the Year (2013) Dakota Richter, Young Marine adult volunteers and senior leadership including National Executive Director (and retired Marine Corps officer) Michael Kessler.
A High Impact Production film produced by Pinnacle Productions of Lexington, the film shows the activities of the Young Marines through the course of a year.
âHaving worked on video projects with the Young Marines for 12 years, I felt strongly that their remarkable story would be best told in documentary form,â said Douglas High, executive producer and director of the film and owner of High Impact Productions.
High is also Co-Anchor of Good Morning Kentucky, weekdays on the ABC TV affiliate in Lexington, WTVQ TV-36.
âI am grateful to National Executive Director Mike Kessler for his enthusiasm and support of the project throughout the production year as our cameras followed the Young Marines as they honored Americaâs veterans in Washington DC, Pearl Harbor, Guam and Iwo Jima,â High said. âWe were there in Arizona as they were introduced to the remaining WWII Navajo Code talkers. Iâm confident that viewers will be very moved by what they see.â
Eleven thousand boys and girls ages 8 to18 are Young Marines. Units thrive in nearly every state in the country and build character, leadership and self esteem in their members through their core values of leadership, teamwork and discipline.
One way the Young Marines teach these values is by honoring military heroes past and present. The film shows individual and unit accomplishments in their mission to honor and preserve military legacy by recognizing and supporting veterans of WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Gulf War and heroes of the War on Terror.
âThis important work of the Young Marines is informative and touching to our audiences,â Mike Kessler said. âDoug did a superb job, and we are extremely proud to bring our mission and message to a regional and national audience.â
The Young Marines is a national non-profit 501c(3) youth education and service program for boys and girls, age eight through the completion of high school. The Young Marines promotes the mental, moral and physical development of its members. The program focuses on teaching the values of leadership, teamwork and self-discipline so its members can live and promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.
Since the Young Marines' humble beginnings in 1959 with one unit and a handful of boys, the organization has grown to over 300 units with 11,000 youth and 3,000 adult volunteers in 46 states, the District of Columbia, Germany, Japan and affiliates in a host of other countries.
