Sixteen19 Uses The Aframe Cloud Video Platform on Feature Films “Rosewater” and “While We’re Young”

Boston and London (PRWEB) November 12, 2014

Aframe announced that Sixteen19, a boutique production and post services company which provides a digital dailies service to filmmakers, used Aframe’s cloud video production platform to expedite digital dailies delivery on two forthcoming feature films from Scott Rudin Productions: “Rosewater,” opening in US theaters this Friday, November 14, and “While We’re Young,” scheduled for theatrical release later in 2014. By using Aframe’s cloud-based approach, Sixteen19 cut dailies delivery cycles to reviewers by up to 6 hours each morning, and enabled fast, easy review on their choice of mobile device - while getting full resolution content to both London and LA superfast and from there, right into post production.

“Aframe was just so fast, secure and easy to use in getting content to a team of about 20 executives that it suited absolutely everyone,” said Ben Baker, workflow supervisor on the two projects for Sixteen19. A long time workflow consultant, Baker established the firm’s mobile services departments in its New York head office in addition to supervising direct client workflows on the two films.

“Having a clear and simple interface can do wonders for making your client happy,” Baker continued. “The film industry attracts all different kinds of personalities. Some want to spend time drilling down into the technology and others just want to hit a button and comment. With Aframe our clients were getting dailies at 5 am or 6 am instead of noon, wherever they were, for fast and easy review that avoided the extra steps of content sent on DVDs with couriers. What’s more, reviewers could make frame accurate comments on the h.264 proxy that Aframe generates and the metadata stays intact all the way through to the edit suite.”

Standalone digital dailies systems exist but they are costly and often hard to use. Sixteen19 uploaded h.264 files to Aframe’s secure private cloud, where Aframe created a link to the footage and automatically sent it with an expiration date to team members and execs, who could review and approve content online, or download it locally on their iPad or laptop for viewing offline. Because the full resolution content resided in the secure private cloud, specialty post services in Seattle and LA could also access files simultaneously.

“We’re honored to have brought the benefits of secure cloud technology to the esteemed Sixteen19 client base,” said Mark Overington, President of Aframe North America. “Particularly with location shoots, production companies need to make it easy to get review and approve content so the rest of the work can get done efficiently. Secure cloud approaches are a perfect complement to the dailies review and approval workflow.”

Based on a true story, “Rosewater” marks the screenwriting & directorial debut of “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart, and stars Gael García Bernal. It is based on best-selling memoir by the BBC journalist Maziar Bahari who was arrested by Revolutionary Guard police, led away by a man identifying himself only as “Rosewater,” and tortured over the next 118 days. Bahari’s wife led an international campaign in London to have her husband freed which journalists worldwide including Jon Stuart covered until Bahari’s release.

“While We’re Young,” starring Ben Stiller, Amanda Seyfreid and Naomi Watts, debuted to rave reviews at the Toronto International Film Festival in early September. In it, an uptight documentary filmmaker and his wife find their lives loosened up a bit after befriending a free-spirited younger couple. It is scheduled for theatrical release in 2014.

A special “Rosewater: Jon Stewart & Stephen Colbert LIVE” premiere event including a screening of the feature film followed by a live Q&A with Jon Stewart, the film’s screen writer, director and producer, takes place on Thursday, November 13 at 7:30 pm ET at over 300 select movie theaters throughout the US, as presented by Fathom Events and Open Road Films.
