New Kwanzaa Gift for the Superhero Fan: Legend of the Mantamaji Graphic Novel Series

Legend of the Mantamaji Graphic Novel by Eric Dean Seaton Kwanzaa

Los Angeles, California (PRWEB) December 22, 2014

As a part of the week-long holiday of Kwanzaa, which celebrates African American culture, TV director Eric Dean Seaton is offering his latest creation -- the Legend of the Mantamaji graphic novel series -- at a discounted rate. Superhero fans can give Legend of the Mantamaji as a part of their Kwanzaa celebration for 30 percent off the list price of one book set when they purchase two sets at LegendoftheMantamaji.com. At a time when fans are actively calling on media companies to make their comic books and superhero movies more inclusive, Seaton has created a graphic novel series that doesn't simply switch characters' race and gender, Legend of the Mantamaji fills the void for both characters of color and strong female characters, creating new heroes with their own rich history.

The Legend of the Mantamaji series tells the story of an egocentric Assistant District Attorney, Elijah Alexander, who finds out he's not quite human, but the last of an ancient race of powerful warriors sworn to protect humanity. Sydney Spencer, a whip smart detective, is ahead of the curve in realizing something is not quite right with a new gang working in the shadows of New York City. She works to convince Alexander not only that the gang exists but that they are a massive threat to the city. Secrets, action and a resurrected ancient evil dominate the scenes in the three-book series.

Seaton, a two-time NAACP Image Award nominee, and his graphic novel creation is an example of putting the seven principles of Kwanzaa -- Unity, Self-Determination, Collective Work and Responsibility, Cooperative Economics, Purpose, Creativity and Faith -- to work.

"Kwanzaa is a time to reflect on the accomplishments of African Americans and support positive images of African Americans in the media," Seaton said. "I created my company "And...Action! Entertainment" to help promote those positive images. Legend of the Mantamaji is not just a life-long dream, it's a projection of the personal responsibility I feel to make sure that we see ourselves reflected in science-fiction and fantasy. Black people can be superheroes, we can save the day. The story and characters are rooted in ancient Africa with 3,000 years of backstory while at the same time being very modern. It is the kind of story I wanted to see when I was a kid devouring comic books every week."

Legend of the Mantamaji is on sale now through January 1, 2015. When visitors to the Legend of the Mantamaji website buy one complete series, their second series purchase is 30 percent off.

Legend of the Mantamaji Books One and Two are also available at Barnes and Noble bookstores, Amazon.com, ComiXology, iTunes, Kobo and more. Book Three is not available for release outside of the Legend of the Mantamaji website until February 11, 2015.

Praise for Legend of the Mantamaji:

"Standouts include female characters who are smart, strong warriors equal to the male characters in the book with no “a**-to-the-camera” poses, great pen work by Brandon Palas, coloring by Andrew Dalhouse of Boom!, D.C. and Marvel, and lettering by Eisner-nominated artist Deron Bennett." --Buzzfeed Community

"Fans who bemoan the 'big two' for a lack of vision, or effort, to create bold new characters and franchises, should learn that innovation can often be found elsewhere. 'LEGEND OF THE MANTAMAJI' has all of the excitement, imagination and suspense to be a TV or film series on its own, but instead it is here as a comic to be enjoyed by the masses who crave them. 'LEGEND OF THE MANTAMAJI' volume one is a must read for those who crave all of the spectacle and action of superhero comics, yet want a comic which offers creative new ideas and a progressive storyline with real weight behind it," Alex Widen, Brooklyn Comic Book Examiner
