Open Days at Düsseldorf’s Academy of Art (Kunstakademie)
The Academy is world-famous for its high standards and for producing some of the biggest names in the art world. Every year at the end of the winter term, the school opens its doors to the public for an exhibit of current students’ works. Duesseldorf Photo Weekend

Düsseldorf Jazz Rally
Germany’s biggest jazz festival, held at venues all over the city and featuring about 80 bands and musicians who turn Düsseldorf into a swinging jazz mecca for thousands of international jazz and blues lovers. May 22-24. http://www.duesseldorfer-jazzrally.de/

Open Source Festival
Top event for international electronic and indie music, now in its 10th year. An outdoor festival at Duesseldorf’s beautiful Grafenberg horse track during the day, followed by major dance parties at night in some of the city’s best clubs. June 27. http://open-source-festival.de/en/

Asphalt Festival
An innovative cultural event that takes off when most art institutions are on summer break. New Fall Festival

Fine Arts Highlights:
Many great ongoing and new art shows await visitors in 2015. Here some of the highlights:

Tomás Saraceno: “in orbit” â€" a gigantic floating art installation invites visitors to a new spatial experience under the vast glass dome ceiling at the K21 Museum. Ongoing â€" Spring 2015

Günther Uecker Exhibit at K20 Museum. A showcase of artist’s pieces from more than five decades, titled “Uecker.” February 2- May 10.

Wim Wenders â€" Landscapes. World-renowned film director Wim Wenders was born in Düsseldorf in 1945. This exhibit shows another side of his artistic life. At Museum Kunstpalast, April 18 â€" August 16.

Miró: A Painter among Poets. This exhibition is the first to explore the relationship between the artist and literature. At K20 Museum, June 13 â€" September 27.

“The Problem of God” at K21 Museum. Works by contemporary artists who seek to come to terms with Christian motifs. September 26, 2015 â€" January 24, 2016.

Francisco de Zurbarán. A retrospective with about 70 pieces by the Spanish Baroque painter (1598-1664). At Museum Kunstpalast, October 10, 2015 â€" January 31, 2016.

SONG Dong. A solo exhibition by the Chinese artist who has played a major part in shaping contemporary conceptual art in China since the 1990s. At Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, December 5, 2015- March 2016.
