UltraStar Cinemas Has Highest Gross in Nation for Christmas Day Release of “The Interviewâ€

UltraStar Cinemas has announced that their west coast theater chain has led the nation in gross ticket sales for the nearly maligned Sony release of “The Interview.†Amid weeks of speculation, terrorist threats and rumors, Sony initially pulled the film from mainstream distribution, then days before the scheduled Christmas release date, gave a triumphant go-ahead. Sony then called upon theaters to screen the film while taking any needed safety precautions necessary.
No stranger to trailblazing, UltraStar Cinemas distributed the controversial film throughout California and Arizona locations for a Christmas Day release. The decision by management propagated their desire to preserve free speech and artistic integrity while providing a safe environment for movie goers. Their efforts resulted in total box office sales which lead the nation over the opening holiday weekend.
