Saum G, a modern master of electronic fusion music, has been busy sharing his new album Water From Mars. Between the album’s release and a number of live shows and interviews he has been busy.
Saum G recently sat down with Jesse Martinez for MusicBox at Chicago’s Vocalo 91.1 FM radio station. The interview went over points from Saum G’s latest work, his past accomplishments, and his fusion of classical training with modern interests. Saum embraces the differences in genres to create new sounds. “I don’t really see it as a compromise, I see it as being good for music in general,” said Saum. “And I really think it’s good for the cello.”
Martinez described Saum G as a progressive cellist. Saum just wants to spread his energy to the people, doing so through his music and personal activism. The latest from Saum is War Against Rape (WAR), an app recently released through Soumit’s World Foundation, an organization honoring his late brother. “You have two choices in life; you can go the negative route, or you can go the positive route,” said Saum. “I chose to be on the positive side.”
Saum G’s unwavering positivity radiates in his music. Water From Mars is ten tracks of upbeat social commentary. “All darkness is absence of love,” sings Saum in “Sound of Bright Matter.” Saum G expressed admiration for people who prove examples of perseverance. “Even in all the darkness, there’s still some light there.” he said. The sentiment clearly plays through his music, especially Water From Mars.
Outside of the album, SaumG is performing live and sharing his music and message with the world. He recently joined Los Angeles blues-rock band The Detro for a show at Loaded Hollywood, playing with artists who double as emerging professionals at Big Bad Sound. He also played in Kolkata, India with tabla maestro Bickram Ghosh recently. Saum G worked at their collaborative studio Big Bad Sound LA to complete Water From Mars. “Saum brings an entirely new dynamic to The Detro,” said Fisher, and “it’s always cool to bust out a cello at a show. Everyone flips out!” SaumG looked nonchalant as he sat down and started shredding on his signature instrument. He never fails to impress with creativity and delivery.
Saum G’s new album, Water From Mars, is available now on iTunes , CD baby, Rhapsody, Amazon, Google Play, Xbox Live and more. Check out http://www.saumg.com for more.
