Website Attorney Steven Rinehart Wins UDRP Domain Name Dispute Against Nintendo Before WIPO

Nintendo of America, manufacturer of the well-known Wii U gaming console, was defeated in its bid to seize the domain name wiiu.com before the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, with website attorney Steven Rinehart representing the respondent in the UDRP case. The decision* was published on July 1, 2013 by WIPO (the international authority adjudicating the dispute) (Case No. D2013-0322).

In response to its loss, Nintendo released the following statement** to EuroGamer.net on July 1, 2013, “Nintendo’s efforts to recover the domain name WiiU.com through a Uniform Domain Name Resolution Policy administrative proceeding were unsuccessful. Nintendo has a strong history of protecting against infringement of our intellectual property rights and we are continuing to review our legal options.”

This win marks the latest in a string of controversial UDRP victories for Steven Rinehart, including ezq.com, fbomb.com, fpsrussia.com, and several celebrity fan sites.
