Amid concerns of the spread of Ebola and Enterovirus, and with flu season right around the corner, Step ‘n Wash, Inc., creators of the first and only self-retracting step that helps kids safely and easily was their hands in public restrooms, announced today their sales have increased 50 percent in the last 30 days.

Outbreaks of Enterovirus D68 persist, with more than 800 people in 46 states who have been affected. Most recently, a 5-month-old baby in Arizona died suddenly from the virus.

Infants and children have an increased risk for infection because they haven’t been exposed to the viruses and their immune systems are immature. Schools and daycare centers are breeding grounds for germs as well because kids sneeze and cough on each other, put toys in their mouths, and don’t wash their hands frequently.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says the most effective way to prevent the spread of infection is with proper hand washing. Plus, studies show that washing with old fashioned soap and water is far better than using hand sanitizer.

Yet most businesses, including kid-friendly restaurants where food-borne illness is also a concern, haven’t designed their restrooms to accommodate children. Between sinks that are too high and soap and paper towel dispensers that are completely out of reach, it’s nearly impossible for children to properly wash their hands.

“Parents are calling us to find out why Step ‘n Wash is not in the businesses they frequent,” according to Joi Sumpton, founder of Step ‘n Wash, Inc. “They’re more concerned than ever before about keeping their kids healthy especially when they’re away from home,” she said.

In the past few weeks alone, Step ‘n Wash has fulfilled orders from the Utah State Capitol building, Buffalo Niagara
International Airport, University Healthcare Systems in Utah, Life Time Fitness, Whole Foods Markets, Horizon Group Properties Outlet Centers as well as various school districts, libraries and children’s museums.

Hand washing for people of short-stature is equally as complicated and perhaps even more important. Texas mom Chrissy Bernal’s daughter Sienna has primordial dwarfism and is more susceptible to pneumonia if she were to get sick with a virus like EV-D68.

After discovering Step ‘n Wash at the Houston Zoo, Bernal started the Equal Restroom Access for Little People movement and petitioned several businesses to install the step in their restrooms too. “It allows her independence,” according to Bernal. “I don’t have to pick her up or worry that she won’t wash her hands at all.”

The chord voicings that Johnson uses are as follows; for the two chord he uses Bm7 (B minor seven), for the Five chord he uses E7 and for the One chord he uses AM7 (A major seven). Johnson continues by performing this easy jazz chord progression using different voicings of the same chords.

The “Sibling Study” conducted by Easter Seals points out that “As parents age, responsibility for caregiving is more likely to fall on a brother or sister. Of respondents expecting to take on the role of primary caregiver in the future, 80% say they are comfortable taking on this role but they are much more likely to say they are emotionally prepared than financially prepared (60% vs. 33%).

Ryan Platt, Founder of A Special Needs Plan explains, “Selecting a Future Caregiver for your loved one (when you are no longer here) is usually one of the most difficult decisions in planning for the future. When selecting a Future Caregiver you want to consider that person’s geographic location, Family Situation, Age, Experience with Special Needs, Knowledge of your loved one, your loved one’s comfort level with them, and that person’s career (ie. Do they travel extensively for work?)

When you are asking another individual or family to become your loved one’s future caregiver (guardian), they will have two questions (but very few will actually ask). The two questions are:

1.    How will adding your loved one to my family change my daily life and what will I have to do?
2.    Can I financially afford to care for another person?

You should, and can, provide them with these answers, BEFORE they provide you a Yes or No to taking on the role of future caregiver.

You can answer the first question by completing a Letter Of Intent. A letter of intent is an instruction manual for your loved one. It shares daily activities, daily challenges, habits, likes and dislikes, doctor’s information, therapist information, prescriptions, diet, favorite books, favorite movies, hobbies, social activities, social or religious groups your loved one is a member, organizations that serve your loved one, your vision for their future â€" basically anything and everything that can help this future caregiver see how life would look.

This sounds like just another task on a list that is already too long. It doesn’t have to be. We have created a template letter of intent we call The LIFE Journal. It is one of the planning tools we provide to the families we serve. It is a word document that you keep on your computer, so that you can update it as life changes so it stays current.

How do you answer the question, “Can I financially afford to care for this person?”, for the future caregiver (guardian) of your loved one when you are gone?

To answer this question, it takes some thought and number crunching. You want to think about the vision you have for your loved one’s life. If they will need support during their lifetime, What type of support will they need? Do they need help eating, bathing, cooking, getting from one place to another, cleaning their room / house, communicating? Once we understand their support needs, we can then calculate the lifetime care costs of those needs. After calculating those needs, it is important to understand the resources that will be available, either from you and your family in the form of existing assets or life insurance proceeds that will be paid when you die (even if you die at age 85, check to see if your life insurance will still pay a death benefit at that time) and government benefits. Most families rely on government benefits for at least a portion of their loved one’s lifetime needs, but please remember there are qualification requirements for most gove rnment benefits and you must structure yourself and your loved one properly, both financially and with the correct legal documents.

I know these items can seem overwhelming, but many of you know the old saying, “How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time!” All these items do not have to happen all at once, but taken one bite at a time, You can do it.”

Usually for 13-year-old Josh Whaley, boarding a plane means flying to another surgery to combat his life-threatening illness. But this time, thanks to children’s charity Kids Wish Network, the Bowie, Maryland, teen headed to the most exciting event of his life so far: his wish to meet WWE Superstar John Cena.

Josh has been a dedicated WWE fan for years; it is one thing that can distract him from his illness. Josh was diagnosed with Crouzon syndrome when he was only 1 years old. Crouzon’s is a genetic birth disorder characterized by the premature joining of certain bones in the skull during development. It affects the shape of the head and face and can cause a variety of development issues.

So far, Josh has suffered through 15 facial surgeries, each requiring flying to an out-of-state facility. Josh required a shunt after the first two surgeries and is monitored closely as the shunt could eventually cause another life-threatening disorder, spina bifida. The teen also suffers from bowel problems and a loss of hearing in one ear, and he faces more surgeries in the future.

Josh spends a lot of time indoors reading and playing video games. But he can be found awake late at night sneaking online videos of his favorite sport. He loves watching the matches and rooting for all of his favorite wrestlers. So for Josh, getting the chance to meet one of the Superstars was a dream come true.

Kids Wish Network sent Josh and his family on an exciting New York City experience where he got to meet Superstar John Cena before a WWE RAW event. While waiting for John Cena to make his appearance, Josh got to meet many other WWE Wrestlers and Divas as well.

“Josh’s eyes kept lighting up when another wrestler would turn the corner,” recalls mom Anjolene. “He kept correcting all of us on facts about each one.”

Once the main man arrived, Josh shook his hand and posed for photos. John Cena talked with Josh about wrestling and autographed some CenaNation items. Before he left, John Cena made Josh promise to cheer for him during the match.

“Josh had a really great time,” recalls his mother Anjolene. “He was so excited to meet all the wrestlers he sees on T.V. and get to see a live match.”

As consumers continue to shift more of their TV viewing online, it’s becoming more and more important for marketers to figure out the most effective way to adapt delivery of ads to online content. On the one hand, online ads give marketers more tools and flexibility to engage consumers (e.g. dynamic ads, “click to shop” capabilities, enabling consumers to choose the categories of ads they see). But ads also need to create a satisfying experience for viewers, because they now have ad-free options to choose from if they want to.

Hub’s new study, “TV Advertising in an OTT World,” suggests that there are some clear best practices when it comes to incorporating ads into online programming.

     Ad Load: Five ads per 30 minutes is a tipping point when it comes to satisfaction with the online viewing experience. Among those who reported seeing 1-4 ads in their most recent online viewing session, 34% were “highly satisfied” with the viewing experience, content aside (i.e. rating of 9 or 10 out of 10). Satisfaction was significantly lowerâ€"23%--among those reporting 5 ads or more.

     Dynamic Ads: Dynamic ads and viewer control (e.g., the option to choose the product categories of ads you see) lead to greater sponsor recall. For example, among those who said ads were based on product categories chosen in advance, 38% recalled ad sponsors during the sessionâ€"vs. just 15% overall. Dynamic advertising creates greater value for advertisers. But it’s also more appealing to consumers.

     Ad Delivery Approaches: We presented 20 specific approaches to ad delivery and asked viewers to tell us which ones would be most likely to grab their attention. Five of the top 8 approaches were targeting relatedâ€"ads delivered based on viewers’ prior behaviors or interests.

Networks and MVPDs lag behind other online platforms on these ad delivery measures.

     Viewers who watched authenticated TVE during their most recent session reported seeing the highest number of ads: 6.7 per session, vs. the average of 5 across platforms. And they were least likely to recall which brands were associated with the programâ€"via commercials, program sponsorship, or product placement (19%, vs. 26% across all platforms)

“Media buyers are steering more dollars from linear to OTT, and sellers are trying to figure out how to best monetize their digital properties,” says Mike Haggerty, one of the study authors. “This new data illustrates that it's not enough to just move your linear ad strategy to the Internet. There are specific tactics that not only make ads in online TV more effective, but also leave viewers more satisfied. Which is critical in an environment where so many other options are available.”

“These findings show that even though consumers prefer a free, ad-supported content over a subscription model, almost 4 in 10 say they are less likely to pay attention to ads while watching online than ads on linear TV,” says Peter Fondulas, a principal at Hub and co-author of the study. “Online, distractions are just a click away. So it’s even more important to deliver ads in a way that engages consumers. Our study shows that dynamic advertising is the most compelling way to accomplish that.”

(Unfortunately, there will still be the standard installation costs. Don't be scared. They won't make you say boohoo.)
