2014 "Extra Life" Unites Gamers on October 25 for Local Children's Hospitals

Extra Life's about joining together to game for local CMN Hospitals

Salt Lake City, Utah (PRWEB) October 02, 2014

Game lovers of all kinds are spending the next month raising funds and deciding what to play on Saturday, Oct. 25 â€" 2014’s Extra Life game day benefiting 170 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals across North America.

The grassroots gaming movement lets gamers register for free at http://www.Extra-Life.org, select their local or preferred CMN Hospital, set a fundraising goal and seek donations from friends and family. A growing number of gamers will now stream their marathon live on October 25 via Extra Life partner Twitch. Players can participate solo, with teams, or in concert with entire communities much as the PlayStation® Community has done for several years. This year, participants can even unlock a chance to win one of three PlayStation® 4 systems with a library of games provided by Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA).

Since 2008, tens of thousands “Extra Lifers” have raised more than $ 8 million on behalf of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals fundraising program. All secure donations made on behalf of Extra Life participants directly benefit the selected CMN Hospital to fund the hospital’s greatest need, from medical equipment and therapy programs to charitable care and vital research.

“Extra Life continues to grow each year because it taps into the generous nature of gamers to do something extraordinary and life-saving for local kids,” said Jeromy Adams, founder and managing director of Extra Life.

“The call to action is connecting children’s hospital advocates across North America â€" from families to college students and everyone in between,” noted Adams. “Extra Life’s a movement formed by gamers, bonded by passion and committed to helping local hospitals. And it takes just a couple minutes to register and get involved.”

In addition to registering for Extra Life online, folks can connect with the movement online at http://www.facebook.com/ExtraLife4Kids and http://www.twitter.com/ExtraLife4Kids for more information.

Since 2011, Extra Life has partnered with the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) Foundation to grow the Extra Life gaming community. The program’s other major partners include Twitch, reddit, Microsoft Stores, Rooster Teeth, KBMOD.com, GameTruck, MindCrack, OnLive and Trion Worlds.
