Wilmington, VT (PRWEB) December 22, 2014

The Hermitage Club announced the completion and the grand opening of their luxurious new base lodge and club house. This green building project resulted in the largest post and beam structure east of the Mississippi spanning 80,000 sq ft, and soaring four stories high on top of three basement levels. With the vaulted post and beam construction and walls of structural insulated panels and large thermal pain glass windows, the building was designed to be a showcase of esthetics and energy efficiency.

The post and beam timber frame of the building was covered by 80,000 sq ft of pre-fabricated Structural Insulated Panels that provide the highest insulation value and air tight integrity making it one of the largest buildings composed of this highly efficient building technology in the United States.

Bob Rubin, the VP of construction at the Hermitage Club said, “When standing in the center of the building next to the large central fireplace soaring up 50’ through the vaulted timber frame ceiling, one experiences sweeping views of the Green Mountains through walls of thermal pane low E glass which represents the largest order ever received from Marvin Windows and Doors. In the evening the massive structure is illumined by over a 1000 low energy LED lights casting a soft radiance throughout the building.” In addition to five high-efficiency Modcon boilers, and the Carrier chiller supplying heat, hot water, and air conditioning, this energy efficient base lodge / club house is serviced by three of the latest regenerative elevators from world leader Otis Elevator that reduce energy usage by 50%.

The Hermitage Club Green Building Initiative doesn’t stop with the luxurious base lodge / club house. Energy efficiency and environmentally friendly design are the hallmarks of the Hermitage Club development which has become the largest real estate development project in the state of Vermont. Plans are underway to capture the heat created by snow-making equipment re-purposing it to provide heat to buildings. Every aspect of the 1400 acre Hermitage Club development plan, from new real estate construction to the creation of scenic trails and the preservation of wetlands has had to comply with Vermont’s stringent Act 250 law which was designed to ensure Vermont’s pristine environment is not tarnished by development.

Perhaps the largest Green benefit of this project has been the resurrection of the local economy, aside from over 250 new jobs and new real estate tax revenues in Wilmington and Dover, VT - in the past three years, total Hermitage Club spending on development has exceeded $ 94 million.
